Penfolds Grange 1977
Purple/red; sweet, dark chocolate/briary with hints of tar roasted meat. Richly flavoured with dark chocolate/berry fruit, loose knit but slightly bitter tannins and long finish. Good overall balance but unlikely to improve. Will hold.

The Wine Advocate: 93/100
Robert Parker Review:
"This is considered a good rather than outstanding Grange, but I have consistently found this wine to be superb. A blend of 91% and 9% Cabernet Sauvignon from a relatively cool growing year, this wine has full body and a gorgeously complex nose of coffee, creme de cassis, caramel, leather, and a subtle hint of pepper and eucalyptus. The wine is very rich, still somewhat unevolved, with more new oak showing through than most vintages of Grange. The wine still has a dense ruby/purple color and seems to need at least another 3-4 years to reach full maturity, with a very sweet, chewy style but exceptional balance. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2018. "
James Halliday Review:
"Excellent colour; a clean, quite intense berry/briar/earth bouquet with nicely balanced oak is folowed by a palate on which some slightly assertive green tinges mannifest themselves. Not a great grange, but a far better bottle than that at the Jopheson tasting."

Penfolds Grange 1975
Garnet red; sweet, leather, spice and meaty aromas with some intense liquorice, almost porty nuances. Rich and concentrated with ripe, tobacco/berry fruit and touches of spice and leafiness. Quite extractive and bitter tannins make the wine a very muscular style. Could soften out.
