Catalina Sounds Pinot Gris 2008
Catalina Sounds winemaker Ant Moore is one of Marlborough's most passionate winemakers Raised in the New South Wales winegrowing region of the Hunter Valley, Ant Moore studied Wine Science at Charles Sturt University before taking on winemaking positions, both boutique and commercial, around key winemaking sites around Australia. After a stint of winecraft in America, Ant was lured to New Zealand, to work at the prestigious Isabel Estate in Marlborough. To make the best wine possible, one needs to control all aspects of grape and wine production. With this in mind, Ant realized he was becoming keen to embark on his own venture. Ant finished up his position as winemaker at Isabel Estate, and purchased land high on a ridge overlooking Marlborough's Waihopai Valley. This site is now affectionately known as Ant's Nest and was the background to the creation of Catalina Sounds. Ant has now developed his own seventy acres vineyard in Marlborough, pursuing his own venture in grape production, winemaking and brand establishment of the Catalina Sounds. The 2005 vintage Catalina Sounds Sauvignon Blanc was Ant's first release and already, his wines have won critical acclaim both locally and internationally
