A DAY ON THE GREEN - TOM JONES
TOM JONES
One of music’s most-loved and celebrated stars SIR TOM JONES will headline the next ‘a day on the green’ concert at Rochford Wines, Yarra Valley on Sunday March 7, the Labour Day long weekend.
In his native Wales, he is known as "Jones the Voice". Today, he is one of the enduring personalities in the music entertainment business. His unique vocal power, ability and charismatic persona make him one of the most respected, admired and loved performers in modern popular music. His 40-year career has seen highlights including receiving a BRIT Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music, a Silver Clef Award for Lifetime Achievement and appearing as himself in ‘The Simpsons’. Other film roles have included parts in ‘Mars Attacks!’ and ‘Agnes Brown’.
Tom was knighted by Her Majesty the Queen in 2006 and enjoys a consistent touring schedule throughout the year. His latest musical offering, “24 Hours” (Liberator December 4 2009), and was co-written by Tom himself – with many of the tracks being an insightful reflection of his life thus far. The album also includes “Sugar Daddy” which was specially penned for Tom by U2’s Bono, and a re-make of Bruce Springsteen’s “The Hitter”
DAVID CAMPBELL
Special guest support artist DAVID CAMPBELL describes himself first and foremost as “an entertainer". This multi-talented performer has featured on television programs, starred in musical theatre, devised his own cabaret shows in New York, recorded two Top 10 multi platinum albums and sold out concerts from coast to coast. His platinum album 'Keep On Lovin' album has just been re-released as a special Tour Edition, which comprises the original CD, five never before released tracks including 'White Christmas' and live footage from the 'Good Lovin' DVD. Like Tom Jones, David loves nothing better than being on stage and is an absolute perfect addition to the concert!
THE WOLFGRAMM SISITERS
It's been years of hard work but lately it seems The Wolfgramm Sisters are everywhere, gracing the stages of many our favourite artists: from Sharon Jones to Dan Sultan, from touring with JET to turning up the heat with Jo Camileri and Ross Wilson at their recent retrospectives and let's not forget Melbourne's two fave spectaculars: Rockwiz and Countdown. And if you haven't seen them live, well, no doubt you've heard their beautiful voices on Little Birdy's latest piece of brilliance. And now, the girls are letting the rest of us in on every musicians secret , releasing their self-titled debut album of stomping early seventies and sixties classics ,many of the very same songs that they grew up singing together. Songs that will have you fossicking through your wardrobe for your flares and giving out daisy halos to complete strangers. Songs you know and some songs you don't, including two Al Green infused little beauties of their own! If you caught their opening performance at The E.G awards and their kick-out-the-jams version of Gimme Shelter alongside the wonderful Dan Sultan you'll know what you're in for. An unmissable night of explosive vocal performance supported by many of Melbourne's fave musos including a killer horn section to boot!
